Tlaa Deneldel featured in recent More Perfect Union documentary
My name is Andrés Camacho and I’m one of the video producers at Native Movement. This summer, I spent time in Nenana, filming our Community Affiliate Program Tlaa Deneldel, headed by Eva Burke. For the first time since 2020, Tlaa Deneldel was able to fish via educational fishing permit, which allowed the harvest of 10 King Salmon. For Eva’s youth interns, this was the first time they’d fished for King Salmon on their home river.
When a film crew from More Perfect Union showed up at the Nenana Culture Camp potlatch, we were excited to collaborate, to help tell the story of Alaska’s salmon crisis and the impacts of trawling. We are grateful to Eva and Tlaa Deneldel’s leadership on this issue and hope this documentary reaches people across the country and the globe.
